Crossing at Peñas Blancas is straightforward once you know how it works. Your driver meets you on the Nicaraguan side after you clear immigration and takes you anywhere in the country — San Juan del Sur, Granada, Managua, Tola, or León.

Flying into Liberia Airport (LIR)?

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Guanacaste is the closest airport to southern Nicaragua, and it's roughly two hours from the border. We operate inside Nicaragua only, so you'll make your own way from Liberia to Peñas Blancas — shuttle services and buses run the route daily — and we pick you up on the Nicaraguan side once you're through. Tell us your expected crossing time when you book and your driver will be waiting.

Crossing at Peñas Blancas

Peñas Blancas is the main land crossing between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Expect to pay exit and entry fees in cash, and allow time — queues here are unpredictable and routinely run slow. Your driver waits at no extra charge; message us on WhatsApp if you're held up. From the border it's about an hour to San Juan del Sur and around two and a half to Granada.
